About the Program:

Implementing a garden project at Three Chopt Elementary School will support three main goals. First, the garden will become a vital component of health, science, and math instruction across the k-5 curriculum. In support of the Health/P.E. program, gardening activities offer immediate lessons on the value of fresh fruits, vegetables, and exercise to a healthy lifestyle. The math and science skills of observing, measuring, hypothesizing, conserving resources, and analyzing data emphasized at all grade levels are readily incorporated into gardening projects and experiments. Secondly, our garden will help to increase the level of parental involvement in our school. Through the active participation of a PTA gardening committee, volunteers have been recruited to lead programs in the garden during the school day and to assist with maintenance after hours. Finally, our garden will provide fresh vegetables to the Lamb's Basket Food Pantry, especially during the summer months.
