About the Program:

Two courtyard gardens and a fruit tree orchard are currently used and maintained within Thomas Stone High School campus. The Senior Courtyard supports five raised garden beds that grow a variety of flowers, vegetables, herbs, and medicinal plants. It contains two themed garden beds: a Korean vegetable garden, and Three Sisters vegetable garden. The courtyard is handicapped accessible, and is used for experimentation and demonstration. The Science Courtyard is where you will find several square-foot gardens used to grow a variety of fruits and vegetables, composting bins, self-watering raised beds, a greenhouse, and a pond for demonstrating aquatic life. Students also use the space to conduct science project experiments, and complete lessons in biology and chemistry. Located between the tennis courts and baseball field, the orchard boasts a variety of apple, peach, pear, and plum trees, as well as several varieties of berry.

Our courtyard gardens and orchard are part of a more comprehensive school and community-based project: Nature
