About the Program:

The Little Green Thumbs Garden goal is to have a fun, sustainable, student-centered learning environment that reinforces academic concepts that are taught in the classroom. We also want students to learn the importance of helping others and the environment by growing their own food in a garden. Our garden is divided into different areas, including planter boxes, and outdoor classroom, a courtyard, a composting station, a greenhouse, and a tool storage area. We would like to build new student benches, tables, potting benches, and raised beds to give us functional areas where students can participate in standards-based garden lessons and activities in a hands-on environment. Our school is located in a small, agricultural community, so we have many knowledgeable parents and volunteers who want to help, but our facilities are in need of repair. This grant would help us transform our garden into a more student-friendly setting for taking our outdoor learning to the next level.
