About the Program:

Tappan Zee Elementary (or "TZE" as we like to call it) serves the 2nd and 3rd grade students of the South Orangetown Central School District.  TZE has a thriving school garden thanks to the support of great teachers and staff at the school, parent volunteers, some guidance from Cornell Cooperative Extension of Rockland and -- of course -- a great crop of kids!

Classes go out on a weekly basis to work in the garden -- planting, weeding, watering, mulching; and to participate in conversations that touch on all manner of subjects "rooted" in the garden: science, math, nutrition, community, health...and everything in between.

Our garden is a great way to get our kids outside in the fresh air and teach them that it's not just OK to get down and dirty in the earth of the Earth -- it's fun and rewarding.
