St. Albans City School
We are in our third year of having students plant, tend, and harvest vegetables, herbs, and flowers from our gardens. Our few fruit trees are too small to bear fruit yet. All our students get to taste what they helped grow. The goal is to give our (basically urban) students an understanding of how foods make it to their tables and how tasty the food they grow can be.
We need your help expanding one aspect of our "Farm-to-School" program. We need lots more fruit trees. We have only nine young apple and pear trees for our 700+ student body. Many more trees will be needed if we are to supply our students with fruit samples.
We have a 1/2 mile gravel walking path around our 30 acres of land. It is used extensively for exercise by all our students. Our goal is to plant a series of small orchards around this exercise path and we need the financial resources to make that happen. We will plant as many 3-year old trees as $2000 will cover. Our orchard sites are excellent.
