About the Program:

The SPE Children's Garden is in its fifth year. Our goal is to model and practice sustainability and conservation for both our students and our South Beach community. We will do this through replacing our aging and vulnerable plastic raised beds with permanent cedar beds. Additionally, we will replace our antiquated watering system with an integrated drip line system for the new beds.

Currently, our Children's Garden and Butterfly Garden serves over 500 children each year. We support classroom plantings, classroom nature walks and classroom harvests each fall and spring. Our garden hosts Family Garden Days throughout the school year to bring together our students and families for special projects and maintenance. We have an after-school Children's Garden Club and dozens of dedicated volunteers that come together to maintain our garden area. Finally, the Children's Garden is the celebrated heart of our Annual Green Market. The Green Market is a collaborative and popular event in the heart of our Miami Beach neighborhood celebrating food, lifestyle, learning, education and health.
Ultimately, a sustainable, permanent and conservation minded garden will endure for additional generations of students and volunteers for not only our elementary school, but our neighborhood and community as well. As we say at South Pointe, We Grow the Garden Together!
