South Avenue Elementary
Hudson Valley Seed currently runs weekly core-curriculum integrated garden lessons for all 312 kindergarten through second grade students at South Avenue Elementary School. Hudson Valley Seed's weekly garden have multiple impacts on students. By growing vegetables students become excited to try them and ask for them again at home. By learning math, science and more with their hands in the garden, experiential learning can become integrated into the public school classroom. By having outside time and learning experiences that do not occur inside the school building, many behavior issues can be addressed. Our school gardens empower students to be their best selves. This Spring we hope to bring the third grade students into the program to participate in weekly garden learning. We already have $3,000 committed from a private donor and a grant of $2,000 from the Whole Kids Foundation will make up the difference we need to bring the entire third grade class on board.
