About the Program:

Seed to Fibre is a program that was developed as an activity for Farm to School Month. The Seed to Fibre program grew from an activity into a service project to be used by various non- profits to introduce activities to schools and out of school programs about Farm to School Services and how to implement Farm to School Services into curriculums, classrooms, and creative use spaces.

The Seed to Fibre program can be a short term or long-term initiative that can provide a variety of positive outcomes on a wide spectrum. By utilizing the Seed to Fibre Program in collaboration with Farm to School Services you can tailor your unique program or project to your program and project participants to support projects and services related to important initiatives.

·         In this program, participants will be able to access individual growers and farmers, complete a project goal, and learn a farming practice that supports a related industry.

·         The proposed activity will begin in October and can be implemented year-round, bi-annually, yearly or specified timeline.

·         Each Seed to Fiber Program participant will learn, grow, and develop skills in the areas of fibre and farming. Participants will learn how to produce a product, create works of art, and develop personal knowledge about products and various production methods.

·         As part of the Seed to Fibre Curriculum and Farm to School Activity Guide, each participant will also learn a technique related to preservation. Be it art, fashion, education or personal development. Participants will have the opportunity to enrich themselves and others with their ability and knowledge of how a seed turns into fibre and how fibre is used in the world, hence the meaning of Seed to Fibre. ·         Each Seed to Fibre program can fit your non-profits region or area of need. Sericulture is just one practice that is a part of Georgia’s Manufacturing and Industry related history. As for the need to learn why farming and the practice of farming is important, “Seed to Fibre’ is an excellent program to scratch the surface and introduce not only the historical component, but the modern-day use of fibre and fibre related products overseas and in America.
