About the Program:

The San Miguel Garden Project started in 2013 with the help of volunteer, Sue O’Malley. Sue is a volunteer from St. Sebastian’s, a private school in MA that has adopted San Miguel as part of their community outreach. Sue has donated time and treasure to create a garden with annuals, perennials, fruits and vegetables. She has worked closely with the students to create a garden that will support the students’ academic learning as well as provide some nutrition for growing boys. In 2013, the students planted cucumbers, tomatoes, beans, lettuce, blueberries, strawberries, and sunflowers. This grant will make possible for San Miguel to sustain the garden and have a viable food source for our students, their families, and the community. San Miguel plans on donating the food grown to our students, families, faculty, and staff as well as donating to the local food bank. The grant will enable us to fulfill our mission of assisting those most in-need by providing access to healthy and fresh produce.
