2015
About the Program:

"Why does my mom buy that stuff for me if it's not healthy?"

"My dad says we don't need that stuff (fruits and vegetables)."

These are actual comments from students I face everyday in my Foods and Nutrition courses. Other students don't know where their next meal is coming from. Parents and children are facing a nutritional crisis.

The goal of our garden is to increase student awareness of:
* where food comes from
* how to grow food
* how growing healthy food can be an occupation
* how to prepare healthy meals from foods grown in gardens
* how to market garden produce

The school garden would be a new "hands-on" learning opportunity for our school. We have recently had a "state-of-the-art" greenhouse constructed on school grounds that currently sits empty. The garden would provide a valuable cross-curricular learning opportunity for students enrolled in Foods, Nutrition, Greenhouse and Marketing classes.
