About the Program:

The Garden of Life will educate all members of our diverse community to achieve their fullest potential in a safe, nurturing and mutually respectful environment that fosters responsibility and life-long learning. Interacting with the plants and landscape within our outdoor classroom will create a sense of environmental stewardship and establish practical, life-long skills. Working directly in the soil teaches our children about the world and its ecosystems around them. By studying the garden, we hope to engender a proactive relationship with health and wellbeing. Our garden offers a direct correlation between the Earth we live on and the food we eat. This first hand contact with nutrition opens the students eyes to the principals of organics and healthy diets. In addition, growing, caring, and harvesting their own food from start to finish provides a sense of pride and ownership the students may not have previously had. The grant will facilitate our ability to support this vision into the future and cultivate the academic fervor within the garden that we have begun.

This program is supported by Rowayton Elementary School PTA.
