Robert Drummond Elementary
Living in a lower income community, I see the relation between poverty and poor health. As a health coach, mother of a student at this school, and girl scout parent and volunteer, I get an up close and personal view of this relationship. A few instances my daughter, (Olivia, 5th grade) has come home with some health information she got at school, excited and educating us on what to do and what she learned. My goal is to set up a nutrition education class that comes with the garden experience in our school, and maybe even in our school district. I know if we can educate these kids on the importance of whole foods, and they enjoy it, they will take it home and make sure there parents know to. Getting this garden going will not only give the kids an opportunity to experience their food from seed to table, but also the education on how to create their own gardens. Eating is a social thing, especially for elementary students. Let's make vegetables cool again!!
