About the Program:

The goal of our community garden at RISDeaf is to weave the garden into as many aspects of the school curriculum as we can. We want to continue to expand the integrated lessons and activities that teach the students about green, sustainable living in an urban setting. We want to teach both the sign language vocabulary and english print vocabulary that is connected with the garden in all subject areas.

Our mission is to have our garden open to the community. Next to us, we have a facility for adults who are physically challenged . These adults have expressed interest in using the garden. The garden plan includes a universal design, allowing the garden to be accessible to all physical abilities. This will allow us to invite our neighbors. This grant will help us to develop a system for a reasonable water access for those who can't pull 200 feet of hose across the lawn. We would like to have an underground hose for all of our gardeners to have easier access to water for their plants.
