The mission of the PS68X Garden of Unity is:

  • to equip our students to become skillful, confident urban farmers, fully versed in both traditional and modern methods of agriculture, such as aeroponics and;
  • to foster environmental stewardship within each PS 68X student, training them to preserve existing habitat as they leverage opportunities to restore habitat for beneficial insects and birds within their Bronx Community.

PS 68X is a Pre-K to 5th school located within a working family community of the Northeast Bronx.  Our children are largely from Caribbean, Hispanic and South Asian families.  We are a Title I school, with over 95% of students qualifying for free or reduced lunch. We have some students in foster care, as well as students who are homeless.

We teach our children to have respect for all.  In the Garden we teach our children to respect all living things.

Our school follows the Common Core in all subject areas.  The garden lessons are currently administered by the Science teschers, who use New York State Science Standards and the New York City Department of Education Scope and Sequence. for science  We also refer to the Next Generation Science Standards.
