About the Program:

The goal of a new garden on campus is to get students outdoors and planting seeds for hands on learning, fresh air and physical activity. We aim to get the students engaged in growing food and composting so that they can understand the health and environmental impact of their food choices. As we face many environmental challenges on a global scale, we seek to empower our students with the knowledge and skills to address these challenges with sustainable solutions and confidence. Another goal of the garden is to align science lessons with Common Core State Standards which will help students develop skills for the new test taking standards. A Whole Kids Foundation grant will allow for a new garden to be built on the campus grounds. Currently the students grow food at a nearby community garden. A new garden will help to create a community meeting place where students, parents, parents and local organizations can participate in growing food.
