About the Program:

The Provident Heights: TexSun Garden provides students with a hands-on education about gardening and nutrition. The garden will help broaden the students’ views of healthy foods and change their attitudes towards choosing the food they eat. With the help of a grant from the Whole Foods Foundation, the garden at Provident Heights will achieve these goals by sending fresh produce home with the children after they have learned how to grow and cook a variety of vegetables, fruits, and herbs. The students will be given recipes to share with their family. These students live in a neighborhood where fresh food is not easily accessible. The students will have the unique opportunity to teach their family and their community how to grow and prepare healthy meals from raw ingredients.
