About the Program:

Our garden's goal is to provide all students at the school an opportunity to connect science classroom learning with experiential food-based education in the garden. We believe that through weekly classes in the garden we are able to promote healthy eating habits, invest our students in the school community and enhance academic achievement.

Pittsburgh Faison's enrollment is growing and many of our classes have 30 students. The current garden contains two picnic tables as our "outdoor classroom" where the students gather when they first come to the garden. There is not enough space on the benches for all students and it is difficult to teach in an environment where the students are facing different directions and uncomfortable.

This grant would support the building of an outdoor classroom which would include built in benches in semi-circles facing the arbor. The classroom would allow 34 students to gather comfortably in the garden classroom.
