About the Program:

After several years of discussion and volunteerism with community gardens, we were able to find the means to launch a Learning Garden on site and we completed our first growing season in 2011. It was a resounding success and we are excited about developing further opportunities to integrate the use of the space and create additional opportunities for our students and community.

Peacock’s Learning Garden was selected as a recipient of a grant from the World Wildlife Fund- Canada in December, 2010. The funds were utilized to develop an outdoor vegetable and sensory garden. It assists in providing a holistic education for students by providing integrated experiential learning, an opportunity to participate in therapeutic tasks and build community. Through hands- on gardening and culinary activities, it promotes sustainable local food production and plants the seeds of healthy living and ecological awareness. Developing and utilizing the interactive garden classroom has had numerous benefits for our students, their families and our community.
