Parkway Montessori and Community Middle

Parkway Montessori is located on the East Side of St. Paul in a neighborhood school that opened in the 30s. It is both a Montessori AND community school, serving the residents in the first St. Paul Public Montessori Middle school. It opened in 2013 and is dedicated to educating the whole child. A large part of the Montessori Model involves building community and, during the difficult time of adolescence, it is helpful to "leave the environment of the family in town and to go to quiet surroundings in the country, close to nature." Therefore, we at Parkway Montessori work to provide nature experiences while at school to students who live in a large city. Parkway Montessori has a wooded area behind the building and at the end of the last school year, began building a raised-bed garden. With this bed, Parkway students can experience nature, learn about the science of food, use it as a venue for creating businesses, provide for the community and learn to be exceptional citizens.
