Our Global Garden

Community Magnet Charter School is located in west Los Angeles, serving approximately 450 students from all over the Los Angeles Unified School District. We had wanted an edible garden at the school for a long time, so in 2013 we built eight raised planters and started our journey to building a garden program, which we called Our Global Garden.

Our vision is to grow vegetables from various global regions to reflect the diverse student body. We create simple but delicious foods using the vegetables from the garden and offer tastings to each class as a creative and fun way to encourage the students to become aware of what they are eating and to teach them that healthy food choices can be as appealing to the eye as it is to the palate.
