About the Program:

The Garden Project oversees a number of programs here Oscar Mayer Magnet School, a Chicago Public Elementary School in the heart of the city. We have started a lunchroom composting program, planted four award-winning gardens on school grounds (including a bio-diverse native Illinois garden in conjunction with DePaul University), we have six chickens living in a custom coop in front of the school and we just installed two beehives. Our school serves students ages 3 years old to the 8th grade and we have both the Montessori curriculum and the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program. We have a wonderfully diverse student body and all kids participate in some aspect of The Garden Project either by volunteering to be on the composting team, starting seeds for the gardens or helping with the chickens.
