Orleans Parish 4-H

Orleans Parish 4-H is currently working with 5 separate schools to develop edible gardens. The primary goals in each garden are as follows: (1) promote positive youth development by helping students gain greater self confidence and independence through gaining mastery of skills in home gardening (2) help students become aware that they can make decisions to be healthy through food and activity choices, (3) help students learn about the process that food grown in gardens undergoes prior to arriving on their plate, (4) help students become familiar with the life cycle of plants We have evidence-based gardening curriculum that cover a variety of ages and learning levels. We plan to utilize Horticulture Agents, Master Gardener volunteers & Nutrition Educators to bring together nutritional education and gardening knowledge to accomplish the previously stated goals and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Grant money received through our organization would benefit schools throughout the city.
