About the Program:

Though our community is a rural one, the students at this school are within the city limits and many are not exposed to gardening or farming. Though we have successfully launched a garden already, this grant will allow us to expand the project and increase access to fresh vegetables for students in our programs. We will increase opportunities to convene partners to deliver nutrition education, while still preserving one component of the existing program (selling the produce from our garden at the local Farmer's Market).
We will be able to purchase curriculum materials such as Science Observation Journals to extend the learning opportunities for all students. We will also revive a garden project that educates students about crops planted by the Miami Indians native to this area, preserving a part of local history and opportunities for students to learn and take pride in our community. This grant will ensure that the legacy of the "Three Sisters" garden is carried on for future generations of students, whose older family members were impacted by the garden. We will also increase the number of students able to participate in all aspects of the garden
