About the Program:

Odyssey Community School is a public charter school in Connecticut; we are in our 15th year and have recently expanded to be a K - 8 school.  We are in the process of obtaining funding to improve our grounds, and we would love to include teaching gardens in our plan.  Right now we only have a muddy field for kids to play in, and no gardens that kids and teachers can work in.

We have done preliminary design work with a landscape architect and we are very excited about having a natural play area that connects students with nature.  Having  kitchen gardens would really complement this design, and would afford us the oppotunity to explore all of the aspects of raising our own food.

We envision using raised bed gardens for our project.

Odyssey is a very diverse public school, with 55% minority students and almost 40% eligible for free/reduced lunch.  We draw from 11 different towns, from inner city Hartford to small suburban towns.
