Ockley Green School
The Ockley Green Garden connects children with an understanding of how their food grows through hands-on learning experiences. In partnership with Growing Gardens, Ockley Green hopes to integrate the community with the garden program by establishing a robust Garden Committee, facilitating quarterly work parties, offering teacher support and curriculum connections, and conducting family outreach through Parent-Child workshops and enrollment in the Growing Gardens Home Garden Program. The vegetables grown in the garden are highlighted in the cafeteria and used regularly in the SUN (Schools Uniting Neighborhoods) after school Garden Club. Healthy seasonal recipes, extra produce and cooking skills are sent home with students. With the support of the Whole Kids Foundation, the Ockley Green Garden will continue to increase community participation, garden education opportunities for children and parents, and will support the presence of the Growing Gardens partnership.
This program is supported by Growing Gardens.
