About the Program:

The school garden at the N-O-W School District has and will continue to serve as a farm to school “classroom” where students can get hands-on opportunities to grow produce that is served on the school lunch lines! The goals for our gardening program are directly linked to the goals of the district’s 21st Century Community Learning Center (CLC) after school program. It is projected that all 115 students participating in the CLC program will be involved in planning, implementing, and evaluating of the school garden growing and harvesting procedures. The long term goal of the school garden is that all K-6 teachers will use the garden as a science and health asset to supplement the regular day-school curriculum. With the help of this grant funding, community volunteers and community experts will continue to aid in the establishment of the school garden. We hope to extend the disbursement of our school produce to local food pantries, school lunch lines, and students.
