About the Program:

Northwest Elementary School's "Learn to Grow ~ Grow to Learn" Project involves teaching students' about ecology, biology, responsibility and sustainability.

Our Principal has proposed a three year garden project that incorporates our students, teachers, cafeteria staff, custodial staff, parent association (PTA), dad's club, school district and community organizations and businesses.

This 100' x 125' outdoor classroom will strengthen mind, body, and incorporate service learning with nature and health. This multi-sensory learning experience will promote skills that supersede textbook lessons across curricula.

The students will learn to connect growing food, and nature with good earth practices. The students will learn responsibility and respect for life by maintaining the garden, and other components added over this 3 year project, such as a pond and fruit trees. Within the 3 years we will create a place for children and parents to eat lunch together and admire their work.

This program is supported by Northwest Elementary School PTA.
