About the Program:

This grant would allow us to expand the use of our garden as an effective teaching tool, benefiting students, families & teachers. The goal of our garden is to teach students where their food comes from, encourage positive attitudes & behaviors regarding eating vegetables, to educate families about growing food, & to use it to enrich the science curriculum. Our garden reinforces efforts to improve the nutrition program by having students see how food grows & letting them be involved in the process. We offer samplings during a celebration of our harvest to encourage a healthy, fun attitude about vegetables. Families learn about gardening through our summer program where they are invited to try a method of gardening that is easily adapted to their own backyards. Our garden enriches the plant growth curriculum by integrating a seed starting demonstration from the curriculum into the garden program. A future website will help communicate successes to our garden community.
