About the Program:

Our North Valley Chapter of the Slow Food Coalition is in its infancy but our organization should have final national approval by March 38, 2017. Our mission is to cultivate community awareness and, specifically, to support school and community gardens, edible education and promote good, clean and fair food for all. Our program serves the diverse local community of Butte County including farmers, ranchers, university students and staff, elementary and secondary students and teachers as well as a transient population who call this area home. Hmong, Hispanic, and West Indian are represented cultures. Our hope is to promote environmental and social responsibility in the local food system by focusing on school and community gardens.

We know that food is an essential part of life and we must keep it clean and accessible to all. Food should be a nutritious part of daily living that feeds us (literally) and emotionally as a community. We would like to pursue the health component in the schools, where at least some of the food in school lunches is grown on campus or at local farms.

Eating and food have become so far removed from our daily lives and everyone deserves to know where their food comes from. We want to provide the opportunity for everyone to enjoy truly nutritious, vibrant food and to share it with the community. Our goal is to bring people together and share our bounty!
