About the Program:

The goal of our school garden is twofold. First, we hope to provide hands-on experiences allowing our students to learn "across the curriculum". Our students will have lessons in the garden that incorporate science, math, reading and history all into one hands-on, experiential learning opportunity. This project exemplifies our school's Montessori values in that it brings together parents, teachers and students in an educational setting to participate in real-life learning.

Second, our school is located in a neighborhood considered to be a "food desert". The school garden has the potential to provide the entire community access to a source of fresh seasonal produce and knowledge about how to garden in general. The school garden can get our community eating healthy and inspired to create gardens of their own - which in turn could improve the health of an entire community.
