The Neighborhood Farmers Markets manages 7 food-focused farmers markets in Seattle, WA. We are a nonprofit 501c3 organization with a mission to support local farms and promote local eating.

Mission: The Neighborhood Farmers Market Alliance is committed to supporting and strengthening Washington's small family farm businesses by creating and operating vibrant, successful neighborhood farmers markets.

To meet our mission, we provide effective direct sales sites for over 100 of our region’s small farmers, while also educating consumers about local farm products and the importance of supporting and preserving local farmland. In addition, we have been at the forefront of advocating for low income benefits programs to ensure equal food access. Specifically, the NFMA:

  • Organizes 7 food and farm-focused Farmers Markets in Seattle: University District, West Seattle, Capitol Hill, Columbia City, Phinney, Lake City, and Magnolia.
  • Distributes emergency relief grants and loans to farmers through the Good Farmer Fund, for which we charge no administration fees. All funding decisions are made by four vendor-elected Farmer Board members. In 2015, the fund distributed more than $40,000 to keep small farms in business.
  • Created the Fresh Bucks program to give fresh produce vouchers to low income shoppers, which became a citywide, privately funded initiative, and is now a statewide program with incentive dollars—but not market costs— funded through the USDA Food Insecurity Nutrition Incentives program.
  • Provided seasonal kids' programing focused on healthy eating and local food both at the markets and in select classrooms.
