Our project is titled "the Karma Garden" and our goal is to create a green space with and for our students for the purpose of learning, reflection, therapy and giving.
Our students are currently detained at an urban juvenile facility, completely surrounded by concrete. We understand that a connection to nature is key to healing the humanity within, and seek to initiate, restore and deepen this connection. Understanding the complex systems of nature, developing empathy for life and social emotional intelligence, being patient, receiving and sharing with others the fruits of your labor, discovring the connections between the natural world and the sciences and humanities, and providing refuge are our goals.
