About the Program:

We have a beautiful and well used vegetable garden at the school. We would like to invigorate that garden by (1) writing lesson plans that allow parent volunteers to come into the outdoor classroom in a "picture lady" sort of way and teach a lesson, but not create it from scratch; (2) infuse the garden with clean energy technology, showcasing solar energy with colored LED lights that are turned "on" by the sun (we're planning on showcasing kinetic energy at the soccer field); and (3) installing signage with QR codes so the community can visit our garden and access lesson plans on their own with an iPhone, iPad or similar device. The grant will make it possible to purchase the solar panels and LED colored lights to highlight the clean power of the sun. QR coded signage will link on-line educational resources about plant science and solar energy.
