About the Program:
The middle school in our community has never had a food producing garden. There is a lot of food insecurity in our community and limited access to fresh produce. Having a garden will add fresh produce to the cafeteria menu and enable students to learn not only how to grow food themselves, but how to appreciate, prepare, cook and eat healthy fresh foods. The focus will not just be on having the garden, but also on how we can use the garden and its produce as a focal point for nutrition education at the middle school and for the community. We see a school garden as a wonderful way to gather many people and groups in our community to work together and make this project a reality.
