About the Program:

The goal of our garden is to show students that gardens don't necessarily have to be on land to be viable and produce food. Vacant lots, concrete and asphalt can be turned into productive gardens that help to feed families and communities. Food security and healthy alternatives to the foods that most of our students eat is a great reason to have such a garden. As populations grow and land becomes more and more difficult to acquire, learning ways to grow food in cities and neighborhoods like ours, will encourage our kids to go home and build their own gardens and perhaps share what they have learned with friends and neighbors.

This grant will make it possible for us to build a raised bed garden in a rear parking lot that is currently not in use. Soil, materials, tools and seeds and seedlings will be purchased with this grant otherwise, this vacant lot will continue to be vacant.
