Manitoba Nature Summit, Inc.
The Manitoba Nature Summit Inc. is a volunteer-run, non-profit organization invested in incorporating nature into children's lives. Research shows that children have become alienated from nature and its curative and inspiring effects. How do we reconnect children - who spend an average of between 1.5 to 6.5 hours a day with electronic media (Kaiser Family Foundation, 2005 and 2006) - back to the outdoors?
The first ever Nature Summit was held in September 2010. A small but enthusiastic group of early childhood educators, nature enthusiasts, health professionals, landscape architects and others came together for a weekend of skill development and developing strategic relationships. Delegates were offered opportunities to explore nature and develop skills that they can share with the children in their lives.
