Mamie P Whitesides Elementary

The mission of this project is to encourage the overall health and wellness of students at Whitesides Elementary School through hands-on learning experiences and to give each student an understanding of where healthy food comes from, how different crops grow, how to care for them, their nutritious value and the importance of becoming stewards of the Earth. We have would love to have these raised gardens as outdoor classrooms. These gardens would provide a wonderful opportunity for our students to work with community garden experts and volunteers in a non-threatening environment. Working with others during this project with help to promote positive communication skills. . In addition to providing hands-on learning, we are exposing our students to another reason to get outside and put down the electronic devices. You never know what is going to happen when you plant a seed, be it in the ground or in a child’s mind.
