Madison School Outdoor Learning Classroom

Hinsdale Nurseries, along with Custom Grove Landscaping, have collaborated with us to create a design of hardscapes and landscape that allows multiple classes of children reading, journaling, investigating and caring for plant life out of doors.

We have gardens designed around grade level studies. For instance, primary grades will plant bulbs, annuals to greet us and herbs and vegetables.

First graders will continue the butterfly garden. Related to social studies, third graders have a prairie garden, fourth graders have Native American plants, and fifth graders Civil War medicinal plants.

Teaching children how to cultivate perennials, trim bushes, identify and remove weeds, and tend to gardens are goals related to science and environmental studies, as well as SELAS to be caring.
