About the Program:

The Lucy Daniels Center Therapeutic Teaching Garden is both an outdoor classroom and a horticultural therapy site for children and their families who are being served through one of the Center’s mental and emotional health programs including the Lucy Daniels School. Horticultural therapy uses live plants and horticulture activities to improve an individual’s mental, physical and emotional well-being. The goal of the LDC Therapeutic Teaching Garden is to use gardening and nature related activities as a way to work on treatment goals related to self-esteem, personal responsibility, personal achievement, motivation, socialization, self-expression, relaxation, and sensory stimulation. Activities will include but are not limited to planting, harvesting, cooking, and creating nature related crafts. The LDC Garden will also serve as a community source for fresh produce that will help make for healthier food choices as well as offer economic assistance through food pantry donations.
