Lowery Elementary School

The Lowery Elementary School Community provides a safe, caring and positive environment, where all teachers and students are educated to their maximum potential through rigor, relevance, and relationships. 

Lowery Elementary is located in rural Donaldsonville, Louisiana. We serve a high poverty area, mostly students of color, and our students and parents are hard-working individuals and are amazing. My kids overcome so many obstacles everyday even before they walk into my classroom. They deserve the to have a edible education.  

I am a 3rd grade Math and Social Living teacher with a dream to instill worth and valuable to my students. I want to teach them to be self-sufficient t and be able to create something that is sustainable. The community of Donaldsonville is a rural area with many farms although my students do not seem connected to the local farmers. I am applying to Edible Schoolyard Academy to educate myself on how to create a classroom culture that embraces local produce and healthy lifestyles. My dream is for my students to take these values and carry it on throughout their lives, not just with me as their teacher. I want to see my students love playing in the dirt and growing produce and seeing the value in being able to sustain a garden by themselves.
