About the Program:

The garden at Louise Troy will support each of the three goal outcomes of After-School All-Stars Dayton.

1. Increase students' academic press. We will partner with the faculty at Louise Troy to learn how we can reinforce science standards and other school day learning to positively impact students' motivation and academic confidence.

2. Develop students' sense of belonging. The garden will strive to help students foster new relationships with their teachers and with community partners and volunteers. We also want this garden to serve as venue to help parents bond and become a unified support system for students. We hope to engage at least 10 individuals from the community and 25 parents.

3. Model healthy habits. Our students will learn more about where food comes from and also find a new appreciation for the environment. The experience of gardening will help instill a greater appreciation for healthy eating, a new respect for the Earth, and an active alternative to passive hobbies.

This program is supported by After-School All-Stars.
