About the Program:

The LOWS Food Production Program was initiated in 2012 to integrate food production with education & community building, incorporating row crops, greenhouse, orchard, composting & animal husbandry. The primary goals are to: (1) involve on-site and homeschool students in organic food production; (2) produce at least 50% of ingredients used in school-provided meals for preschool and kindergarten; (3) produce an offering for each school-sponsored community event; (4) provide for sale fresh produce, flowers, seeds, plant starts and educational opportunities; & (5) build operational sustainability. Though much remains conceptual, the garden has been active for several years & has the necessary infrastructure in place. If awarded, this grant will allow the school to purchase additional tools & supplies for a secure storage enabling participation by a greater percentage of the student population. This participation will lead to greater production to benefit the students & greater community.
