Live Oak School
Our garden's goal is to highlight the connections between food, health and community and deepen the relationships between each. One, through hands-on garden activities, we provide education on how to grow seasonal vegetables, herbs and fruit. Two, by showcasing innovative ways to reinvigorate the land and our valuable topsoil, using composting methods. Three, with local ingredients and a community of local youth and their families to help, we will harvest our produce and empower community members by sharing methods to prepare our seasonal bounty simply and deliciously. Our garden is 1000 square feet, but just outside our gate is a large city park. With support from this grant we will be installing a new compost system that will provide educational resources on composting, growing food and establishing sustainable practices for water catchment to community residents. The garden will give the community a common purpose- bridging the connection from healthy bodies to healthy planet.
