About the Program:

In 2009, Larchmont Charter was selected by Alice Waters to spread the roots of the Edible School Yard Project in Los Angeles. The ESY Project at LCS supports constructivist learning through hands-on experiences in gardening and cooking classes, and nourishing foods shared around a common table.

Larchmont Charter is a k-12 school operating on 4 different campuses. The edible education program looks a little different at each campus. However, it is written into our charter that our school teaches and models sustainable practices and all our campuses rely on our Edible Schoolyard program to promote the tenets of eco-literacy by teaching children to garden and prepare and eat local seasonal food.

On two of our campuses we also provide lunch from scratch and have developed curriculum that integrates gardening, cooking and our lunch program into the school's academic curriculum. Our goal is to extend this full vision of edible education (including lunch as an academic subect) to all campuses.
