Lanikai Elementary Public Charter School (LEPCS) is engaging students in the garden and healthy nutritional habits while implementing the Kokua Hawaii Foundation Aina in the Schools Program(KHF).

Since the Fall of 2013, LEPCS students, parents, staff have been combining efforts to focus on the whole child. LEPCS mission is to empower students to meet academic challenges integrating science in the garden and solve real world problems such as food security and sustainability. Lanikai will help develop students who are confident and creative builders of their future. It is in the atmosphere of cooperation Lanikai students complete the circle of respect and cultural values. When students are working shoulder to shoulder in the garden and classroom, appreciation and understanding of their environment is embraced.

LEPCS serves three hundred and twenty-five students, grades Kindergarten to Sixth.  Hawaii is the gate of entry to the United States through many of the islands. Many languages are spoken at home and at LEPCS. Lanikai is a diverse school serving many ethnicities. While students are young, Lanikai is able to engage children’s interest and celebrate their accomplishment of broadening their understanding of the world and the importance of food security in Hawaii and at home. The standards- based learning programs focused on schools provided to Lanikai by KHFare used in class, and in the garden to foster inquiry, exploration and independent thinking.
