About the Program:

Our garden's goal is to build awareness among parents, students and staff about the wonderful garden that we have and the wonderful curriculum associated with it. We would like to increase the number of teachers who utilize the garden in teaching their lessons plans and curriculum. We want to teach our students the importance of gardening, to get students to try new vegetables and to understand what's involved in getting fresh foods from a garden or farm to our tables. We plan to reinforce this by having our own La Ballona Farmers' Market where we encourage students to sample and sell what they have grown. We want each of our students to experience lessons and touch the soils, seeds and garden tools for a hands-on planting experience. We want our student to learn about composting and how compost can enrich the soil. We want our students to learn about reusing resources wisely via a rainwater harvest area and composting. Finally, we want all students to take pride in the garden & school!
