About the Program:

This grant will enable our school to invest in planter boxes, tools and supplies in order to grow vegetables and herbs as part of our outdoor classroom. We see the creation of this school garden as a way to provide our students with a "living context" in which to explore, learn and grow. Founded in 2011, The Knowing Garden is an independent elementary school where students learn to learn, love and see the world through the eyes of innovators and catalysts. The five guiding principals of our curriculum are: constructivism, brain development, capacity building, whole family wellness and cooperative learning. We nurture citizens who will be ready to take their place in a changing global economy and we do so by facilitating learning through playful inquiry, collaborative projects, and connection to nature and the environment. Our students have opportunities to discover who they are and recognize other perspectives, building a strong connection to self, others and the world around them.
