KNIGHT ELEMENTARY
Knight Elementary is seeking funding to implement a healthy eating program for our students. We want to involve students, teachers, parents and our chef in hands-on learning experiences which will enhance the overall education of our students, especially in nutrition and healthy eating habits. This program would include an outdoor learning garden where students can grow vegetables and learn healthy eating habits using nutritional food from the garden. As part of our program, a local farmer will teach students how to plant and grow vegetables. Our volunteers will teach lessons on food and nutrition as they relate to the GA Core Standards. Our chef will provide cooking demonstrations from the food grown in our garden. Teaching children how to make healthy food choices increases the likelihood that they will eat healthy at school and off campus. We believe that healthy eating patterns learned in early childhood promote optimal childhood health, growth and intellectual development.
