KIPP Academy Middle School
The garden at KIPP Academy Middle School has grown organically over the past 4 years based on the needs of the school. The ultimate goal of the garden is to be sustainable over the long-term. This grant will provide seed money for our 3-year plan. This plan addresses the 3 pillars of sustainability (see below) to ensure that the garden continues to thrive at this school.
Environmental: We will build a 3-bay compost area to recycle waste from the garden and use this compost for our beds. We will grow the fruit tree orchard and interplant with native pollinator species, creating an edible forest.
Economic: We will decrease our costs and increase our capital for the garden. We will make our own compost and we will make our own transplants by building a propagation station. We will sell these transplants at a plant sale in the Spring.
Social: We will establish the KIPP Garden Club. The club will be moderated by our Garden Coordinator and will develop student garden leaders.
