King Elementary School
The goal of the Urban Garden is educating school age youth and the production of community gardens/farmer markets in a neighborhood that is considered a food desert. This project will assist in the expansion of our existing Urban Agriculture training program to include completing a 7,500 square foot outdoor education garden to teach environmental education skills to youth from 4-6 public schools through the lens of urban gardening. By participating in a hands-on approach, students will gain a personal connection with gardens and food, helping them to be more able to make healthier nutritional and environmental choices in the future. Our trainings will be lead by Youth educators, called Eco Advocates, who will help increase the knowledge and critical thinking skills of these school age young people to teach them the importance of growing healthy food for a better quality of life through bio-dynamic gardening, leadership and environmental skills.
